Product Description
Filter bed sand is used in creating slow sand filters.
Slow sand filters are used without the addition of coagulant. The lower velocities used mean more particles are retained which in turn encourages biological activity. Within days the layer of organic material on the surface, known as the schmutzdecke, becomes capable of removing colour and turbidity and large numbers of bacteria.
